2nd Week Report on Pete's Injury & Other News

Injury News:

Yesterday, Pete had a follow-up appointment with the trauma doctor.  The wound is healing and looking better every day, though it is still oozing and seeping which requires him to change the dressing on it several times a day.   The "hole" is closing up and looking smaller and the bruising sustained from the injury is slowly fading.   Pete told the doctor that he felt he was ready to return to his shift on Friday... so the doctor wrote the order.   I didn't agree with it and protested, but the doctor did it anyway.    We'll see how great Pete feels after a weekend of 12 hour shifts.   Sure, I made him put on his gear belt and that kind of thing (which he complied with), but it's a little different to be wearing it for 12 hours as opposed to a minute or two.    For whatever reason, he wanted to go back to work before the baby is born!   I think it's partially a male ego thing.  Me... I'm frustrated about the whole thing, but there is nothing I can do to stop him!

I was sure to mention at the visit that we would like the blow to the nose recorded in case something comes up in the future that's related to it!  They STILL have never x-rayed or done anything with that.   No one can argue that it was broken, however.  His nose looks somewhat like the letter "c" now.  The doctor agreed just by looking at it that it was indeed broken.  There wasn't anything to do about it at this point because Pete didn't want them to try to fix it.
His cognitive powers are returning as well.  I don't think his mind is 100% clear, but it is better than what he was doing... repeating himself over and over and over!   The doctor asked me if we wanted a CAT Scan and I replied, "Well, what good is that going to do now?"   None is the answer.  They  made note of a mild concussion, too- because it's obvious that he had one.

I am sure that the Lord has had his hand on Pete, but I know there is still a few weeks of healing to be done in his body.  Our chiropractor gave us information on concussions and they can take quite awhile to recover from.   The physical wound still won't be fully healed for another 2 weeks.   But, back to work he'll go.     I hope he's happy!

Family News:

Yesterday was also our middle son, Moses' birthday.  We traveled around town from store to store so that all the older 3 kids could spend some of their birthday money.  This was the year for "cash" and they ended up with quire a bit of it.  Even Pete and I gave the older ones money so they could simply go and get what they wanted.  It was a  fun evening and they all found everything that they were looking for.  We have some bids on eBay, too, which we are waiting to find out about.

Did I mention that my boys are crazy about Legos?  Moses is so gaga over them that for breakfast yesterday, he wanted Lego Eggos!   I was shocked to hear that they made such a thing, but there they were in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store.....

May wonders never cease!

Pregnancy News:

Now that I am in my final DAYS of pregnancy, my body has decided that it's time to swell.   I don't like it one bit.  I am drinking tons of water, watching my salt, exercising, etc.  but there is nothing I can do about the excessive heat we've had here in KC for the past 12 days now.  It seems as soon as I go outside, my ankles say, "Hey, let's get big and puffy.  That ought to help the situation!"    We were out quite a bit yesterday and it was 101 yesterday without the heat index.    I'm hoping I'll lose some of this retained fluid within the next few days (it's supposed to cool down just a bit tomorrow), but I'm not holding my breath.  I think the only thing at this point that would bring relief is DELIVERY!

Have a great day, friends and we'll see you later!
