Choo Choo Wheels

Have you ever had choo choo wheels?  Well, that's what my parents called them growing up!  Here at our local grocery, they call them wagon wheels (maybe because we're in the Midwest???)    I don't think I've  had them since I was a kid living back in Ohio, but when I passed them in the store, I couldn't resist them.  My youngest caught on right away and said, "Mom, dese are wike a twain!"   Yes!  That's the idea... and since he likes trains so much it made it all the more fun.    These interesting pasta wheels can be eaten in more dishes than simply with sauce... they're also great in cold Italian salads!  They're also great handling for little fingers... so younger children can have at 'em!  Plus, what you don't eat can be used by the kids for art projects!  That's not too bad multi-tasking for a food.

We served our delicious choo choo wheels with mini homemade meatballs (our own secret recipe).  Meatballs are a favorite at our house!  The kids usually help me make them and last night it was Moses who stepped up to help with dinner.  Of course, he loves rolling the meatballs and shaking the skillet so they will brown evenly!  I am sure though that he offered to help because he was interested in the peach crisp that we made for dessert.    We dished everything out on our authentic Italian dinnerware and ooo, la, la... it was sooooo good.   The mound of choo choo wheels with the sauce and meatballs piled high in a stoneware bowl was enough to set anyone's tummy a'grumblin!
The crisp was served warm over vanilla bean ice cream and topped with extra creamy whipped cream.  MMMM.    Are you hungry yet?

So if you have a hankerin' for a quick, delicious meal that the kids will love to sink their teeth into....(chew, chew)...hop aboard this menu and try... CHOO CHOO WHEELS!
