Expectant Prayers ®

Don't Let Your Light Wax Cold

Following yesterday's topic on prayer and the importance of remaining diligent in the hour that we live (Jesus said, "Can you not tarry with me one hour?), I wanted to bring up a topic so that we can all guard against it...waxing cold.

Have you ever watched a candle burn?  I was told by a cousin of mine who used to do "Party Lite" parties that you should only let your candle burn so long and then you are to snuff it out properly and make sure the wick is trimmed.  Um, I'm bad at following her directions.  I usually buy those jar-type candles because I have been known to let my candles burn down so far that the pool of wax covered whatever it was sitting on!   I can't tell you how many times I had to scrape up a mess before I learned!  It's also important to always be watchful concerning your candles.  I know many house fires have been ignited from unattended candles!   Thankfully, I have never been out of the house when I had my wax accidents.

Wax is strange.  It can be hot and oozing out of your candle one minute and the next, it's cool and hard.  Ever made a hand dipped candle?  Well, you're glad the wax hardens up quickly as you're sitting and dipping... and dipping... and dipping.  (By the way- it's a very fun project for kids if you haven't tried it.  Start with some wick and melt your wax.  You can even melt old candle wax down from used candles. Craft stores will have all that you need.  Start dipping the wick (you'll need something deep enough to dip straight down) and keep dipping until a fat candle is formed!)  Ah, but back to my point... wax can harden so very fast even if it was hot just seconds before!

This is the picture I have had in my mind concerning the end-times church.  Right now (similar to 9/11) we have unity in the body and have come together (as a nation and as believers) for a common cause.  And how long did that last?  Not long enough.  Now the very thing that united a people is a major factor in what divides us.

What I want you to think about today is:  WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ELECTIONS ARE OVER?

I see a great "waxing cold" coming our way.  Why?  Because the Word tells us that it will happen before Christ's return.

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."  Matthew 24:12

"...and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away."  Luke 8:13

"That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition"  2 Thessalonians 2:2-4

If the candidate of choice gets in, then the tendency would be to lull back to sleep saying, "Ah, God has shown us mercy and we have at least four more years of peace and prosperity."  Pride also sets into some hearts; arrogantly proclaiming, "See what WE did through our prayers?", quickly forgetting that God is the one who raises up kings or removes them.   It's not a work of man that anyone should boast.  If anyone boasts, he should boast in the LORD!

If the candidate that we did not choose gets in, many will murmur and complain, "God didn't answer our prayers."  Because their roots were not deeply planted in the Lord, they will fall away from the faith.    Not acknowledging that God is control of all things (it rains on the just and the unjust- yet HE changes the times and seasons), they will not remain unless God does things their way.

For those of you who have been revived and awakened by the hour we live in, let me encourage you to trim your wick (remove all the blackened debris from your life) , keep the fire burning in your spirit (through prayer and the Word), and be watchful (for the signs of the time, for His return, and that you don't fall into temptation)!   He is looking for those who are alive and remaining in Him when He comes.  Guard your heart and life closely so that even the most devout (in Christ) among us would not be deceived.   Let your light shine before men, so they will see Christ in you and God will be glorified.

Join with me in prayer today, not only for the elections, but for the people of our nation- that we will NOT wax cold!
