I don't know how it is where you live, but here in Missouri, spring is always a welcomed sight- especially for the children! Mr. Owl has said goodbye along with the warm weather (he lives in a hole in the side of our tree) and other critters are emerging and running around the yard (usually chasing each other in playful antics). Just this week, the majority of our spring surprise bulbs popped out of the ground while others who had a head start have greeted us with their cheery faces. We call them "spring surprise" because the kids helped plant them and where they pop up is always a surprise. I forget from year to year where things have been planted and I'm always amazed to see how much they have multiplied. In the words of Squanto, the leaves on the trees are about "as big as a mouse's ear" depending on which side of the house you examine. Southern exposed plants and vegetation are faring much better than the northern ones (which is the direction the front of our house faces). The shade of the house on the north tends to delay growth.
This week also brimmed with spring showers, which were in the forecast all week long- even today. The wet weather has caused us to get some much needed chores done around the house and simply relax a little.
The yards are greening up and I have noticed lots of people treating for weeds and fertilizing. I need to do that too... maybe that will be a goal for today???? I guess I'll go and pick up some Scotts on the way home from getting the boys. My oldest knows how to apply the stuff and since I am expecting, I will let him do it. Today the older boys are still on their cooking camp-out with the church. They will earn a merit for their respective class rank. It's a much anticipated event of spring.
Of course, I'm getting the itch to plant things, but I have told myself to wait at least until May to do so. I have a lot I want to grow this year and luckily I have a lot of little hands who are eager to help! Gardening is one of the favorite pastimes at our house.
I actually woke up this morning dreaming about trying to find purple outfits for the entire family for Easter. We always dress in color coordinating outfits for Easter. Last year was green (with hot pink accents for us girls). The year before that was yellow and the one before that I think was light blue. I haven't done anything in the way of shopping for Easter clothes yet, but I guess I'd better get on it soon. And purple??? I'm not sure we've ever done "purple". Hhhmmmm.
Yesterday we also made some tentative vacation plans and tried to map out some of our activities over spring and summer. Of course, with my husband up for promotion and a possible schedule change, it's hard to do more than gather "ideas" at this point until we know promotion results next month.
And I don't know what the deal is, but I looked at my youngest yesterday and it looked like he grew 2 inches!!! He's thinning out (loosing that baby-chubby look) and looking more grown up. He'll be four in the summer, so what can I expect???
Have a blessed Saturday and I hope you take the time to simply enjoy the evidences of spring in your life!
