LOCO- Motive?

My 3 yr. old son got a Thomas the Tank Engine set for Christmas.  He had a smaller version of the same track and the identical Thomas engine, but with a little creativity, we were able to put all of the track together and make super huge track.

We don't have a super huge house, so we decided to put the track up in the kitchen (a decision that has been reconsidered lately).  The floor is nice and hard, level, and big enough for the train track.   The problem is that it stretches from one set of cabinets on the far side of the kitchen clear to the pantry.  I think I must reconstruct the track at least 3-4 times a day when someone accidentally walks into it.  It's usually Levi who NEVER looks down when he barrels through!  Yesterday, we ended up making the track a bit smaller so that we can get around it easier.   Most people would probably think we've gone a little "loco"!  All I can say is that when you have kids, you have to adapt.  As Grandma Rule would say, "You have to have a sense of humor about these things!"

AND, this is better than my original idea of getting a super huge train that Zeke could ride and sprawling track all around the house!  LOL -  I'm not sure I was ever really serious about that....  our house would end up looking more like Pee Wee's Playhouse than a residence!

Zeke plays with his train for hours a day running his 3 engines and making up stories to go along with his adventures.  He's fun to watch and I've even succumbed to hankering down on all fours to help engineer the trains.

My father is a lover of trains (and appreciates the fact that Zeke loves trains, too).  He has been ever since he was little.  Maybe it's because he grew up near a set of tracks and the town we grew up in had it's share of trains blowing through every day.  Our city was home to Smuckers (jams and jellies) and that probably helped with the train activity.  The sounds of trains are common to all of my family.   Even today, we can hear trains from where we live here in KC and it brings back memories.

I'm sure if Grandpa were here, he'd be on the floor playing with the trains, too!

We hope to take a train trip with the kids, either this spring or summer.  We can catch the Amtrak to St. Louis or even up to Nebraska or Chicago.  It's been a long time since I got aboard a train, but it is fun!    I think Zeke would really love that!

Oops, better run!  Zeke's waiting for me to play with him!   TOOT TOOT!  See you tomorrow!
