Expectant Prayers ®

National Prayer

In the tradition of our first President, George Washington, our new President will be attending a National Prayer Service at the National Cathedral this morning in Washington D.C.  I am praying for an anointing on that prayer service and genuine sincerity of heart on behalf of America's top leaders as they take our country to God.

Somehow I get the feeling that our founding fathers (such as George Washington) had a much different perspective on righteousness and holiness than most politicians today.  After all, the main reason of the founding of this great nation was for religious freedom, not for prosperity, commerce,  opportunity, or notoriety.  Yet, many would like to rewrite not only history, but the very Biblical principles this nation was founded upon. In fact, sometimes I wonder if our Presidents have even read the Word of God!   We can not rewrite the Word to suit our own liking.  We cannot create a new god that encompasses all beliefs and religions of the masses.  Our God is distinct and declares in the Ten Commandments : "Thou shalt have no other gods before ME."   Perhaps that is one reason why the Ten Commandments are sought to be removed from public institutions.  Yet, we are being indoctrinated with every notion under the sun on how we are to believe in God and define Him!  My friend, our God goes beyond anything we can possibly describe.  He is indescribable!  We have substituted dependency on God with dependency on our own resources and devices.   "In God We Trust" is disappearing, only to be replaced by a pseudo-trust.

This gets me thinking about unity.  I would like to revisit my archived blog sometime during this next week on unity.  I think an astounding number of people are getting on board with this idea in these last days.  Unity for the sake of unity itself is a false sense of unity.  We cannot hide our concerns with our country based on trying to maintain this false sense of unity.  Yet, many will.  But ask yourself... what is the source of this unity?

I will end today with a prayer from George Washington.  It is not overtly profound, but yet, the dependency on the Almighty God is more than evident.   Let this be our national prayer today as well:

"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United Sates at large.  And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.  Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen."
