Praying the Word of God

"The Word of God is the food by which prayer is
nourished and made strong."  - EM Bounds

Not only does the Lord want us to read His Word and hide it in our hearts, but He also wishes for the Word to become life in our actions.  As an educator, I can tell you that the true test of learning is application.   We can learn facts all day long and have a head knowledge, but never allow that education to bear fruits through execution.  Studying alone does not make us wise.  Using what we know does.

2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

The Word of God is an all inclusive book that is capable of changing lives.   What other books are capable of accomplishing all that the Word of God does?  Fiction or non-fiction - I would tell you that the list would be awfully short!

Changed lives and  being equipped for every good work is only accomplished by our pliability and willingness to be shaped, formed, and prompted to action with what we have read.   We also must be doers of the Word and not hearers only.  James 1:22 says, "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

One of the ways we become doers of the Word is to incorporate what we have read or learned into our prayers.  It's the first step of putting our faith into action!

For example, start with the Scriptures or passages that have become your favorites. If you have a favorite passage- there must be a reason why it speaks to your life. Use it to turn a life-verse into a powerful life-prayer!
