School Day

On Thursday, our family went to the much anticipated School Day at the K (Royals Stadium).   There were about 18,000 kids in attendance from area Metro schools!  It was a great day... fun, but HOT!

So what did a crowd of 18,000 look like?  This is to my right and to my left.

Here some of us wait for the Weather Program to begin.  The Fox 4 Weather Meteorologists put on about an hour show full of facts, experiments, and fun.  They arrived in the new H-2 Storm Chaser vehicle and even had the Fox 4 Helicopter fly over the stadium several times.  The weathermen created a tornado in a huge tube,

Released 2 large weather balloons (above left) , made a cloud out of goo stuff (above right),  performed the Coke and Mentos experiment, played a mock baseball game, and played trivia with the crowd on the Jumbo-Tron.  The best part, in my opinion was when the Fox 4 Helicopter actually landed on the baseball field.  What a talented pilot!  Of course, Titus was impressed with that!

Here you can see the helicopter maneuvering back and forth across the field before he landed in the center outfield.  Way too cool!

After the Weather Presentation, we all dismissed for lunch.  We packed hot dogs and the works in coolers and actually tailgated out in the parking lot for lunch.  That's a first for us!  We've never tailgated before.   After eating, we headed off to lot K for a closeup view of the weathermen (got some autographs), the Fox 4 Helicopter, and the Storm Chaser H-2.

Above, Titus, Moses, and Zeke take their turn in sitting in the Storm Chaser H-2.  It was their first time in a Hummer!  Very cool for them.  Finally, we made our way up, up, up to our seats for the afternoon Royals game. We didn't end up staying the entire time because Levi was still not feeling very well.   We left around the 5th inning.  Overall, it was a great day and well worth the effort!
