Searching for Silver Shoes

With the wedding upon us tomorrow and the rehearsal tonight (which is preceded by my first run through with the accompanist)  it seems like time is flying out the window.  There are always those last minute details that have to be taken care of... in our house - times eight.  Not only do I have to have all of my stuff ready to go tomorrow, but getting all the kids outfits together, pressed, and then all of them bathed/showered.   I still have my gown to press, nails to do, songs to continue to practice... but now... I have to find some shoes for the wedding.

Rewind to earlier this week:  I bought a very lovely gown online that I am very excited about wearing.  The measurements indicated that it would fit me in all the right places (especially considering I have a baby).  The shipping was super fast and it arrived on Monday!  When I tried it on the first time, I was shocked to discover that although the dress would fit me up top, there was an eight inch difference in between the bust measurements and the midriff!   Good grief!     I didn't waste any time getting the gown altered, but that was exciting enough.  My mother-in-law is the seamstress, not me-and she was in the hospital having surgery on Monday.  (She had her thyroid out.  She is doing great by the way- a real testimony to God's healing power.  She's had very little pain and could talk right away- if you knew her you'd know how vital that is to her! )
I do have to sew occasionally so at least I knew what I was doing (somewhat).  It finally fit, but I am also using a body slimmer underneath so I can have some extra room.  I hope it just doesn't constrict my breathing... that's kinda important when you're trying to sing.  With the dress now altered, it looks nice, but I am going to have to find some nice shoes with a good heel on them.  The dress is floor length and a bit too long, so I need some height.

Fast forward to yesterday:  I had planned and scheduled my activities for the day to allow several hours of afternoon shopping.  We all got down to the van to go and found the battery was dead. Sometimes the kids leave a door open or a reading light on and that will drain the battery.  This time, we don't know what happened, but the van would not start.  I had to wait for hubby to get up and hook up the battery charger... and then it had to charge.    By the time I got out, it was right before dinner.   I ran two errands and came home and cooked dinner and cleaned up.  Then out to run more errands... but only got to go to one store to search for shoes.   NO LUCK!  I was frustrated because I had gone to a different store earlier in the week and I didn't find anything there that was dressy enough.   I am in search of SILVER SHOES!!!

So, you know what my day will be like today.   I am just going to have to trust the Lord with this one because there's more to do in my day then I have time for.  There have been through other things like this where I've had to pray... Lord, lead me to it.  I've got to trust Him to supply the need.  So, hopefully in a little while, I'll be able to get out and start looking!   I do believe God dropped me a verse this morning:

"and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."  Ephesians 4:15

You know, shoes are the part of the armor of God, but I didn't realize how true this verse was until I started thinking about it this morning!   You don't have peace until your feet are fitted and ready!    You're NOT ready until your shoes are on.    Peace gives us power to go forth and do what we need to do.
I am reminded, too, that God fits our feet with different spiritual shoes- equipping us for the job we need to do.  We see a parallel in the physical.  I need wedding shoes, but a soldier wouldn't put on wedding shoes... a soldier would put on boots.  One person might need running shoes, the other ballet shoes.  All are different, but God equips us with the type of shoes that will make us ready to do the  work we are called to do.   (Hey, wouldn't that make a good youth skit?)
He's also reminding me that we should begin every day with the armor of God and know that our source and strength comes from HIM.

OK- I need to go now so I can try to find some peace!!!!      Have a blessed day!
