Spiritualism Without God

A few days ago, I caught parts of an afternoon talk show where the guest was speaking on the subject of "spiritual relationships".   The definition of such a relationship was described as "one that makes each person involved grow spiritually".  That was further explained as "life character" and "awareness of things outside of one's self".   Who wouldn't want a marriage or relationship that speaks to the spiritual as well as the emotional and physical?  The guest doctor on the show had discovered that most successful relationships were ones that cater to this important aspect of "spiritualism" and not once did they mention the role of God in the equation.  Sure, sometimes they refer to a "higher power" (whoever or whatever that may be)... but the very one who designed the fabric of our makeup... our minds, the network of our emotions, the spiritual parts of us... and who designed marriage... was never spoken of.

I have to stop and think that over the past decade, there has been a great flux of interest involving spiritual things.  But spiritualism apart from God only opens one up to deception!  God made us in His image and that image contains body, soul, and spirit.  As Christians, we should have a clear understanding of the Spirit of God, the spirit world (meaning that there are angelic forces and demonic forces at work which affect our lives), and the devices the enemy uses to deceive us in this area.

I find it interesting that many people want the blessings of God without God attached.  They want spiritual relationships.  They want financial blessings and have learned to give in order to receive. They live by the principle of sowing and reaping.  They desire to find their purpose in life.  They desire spiritual awareness.... but all without acknowledgment or understanding of God!    People out seeking mediums or clairvoyants, new age philosophies and ideas, voodoo and curses upon others... even making themselves out to be as great as God (you have the power in yourself to be whatever you want to be).  We are saturated in spiritualism and the occult and are being lulled to sleep with the deception that you can obtain spiritual awareness without the Spirit of God.  We must be aware of what we are absorbing and what kind of messages we are ingesting that may be contrary to the Word.    People are out for their own lusts and desires... and spiritualism is right in there with the list of things people want to obtain.  Just remember that spiritualism without the understanding of the Spirit is like an umbrella with holes in it.  You think what you have is a good thing, but in the end it is harmful and useless- a mere imitation of the real thing.

Have a blessed day in the Lord, friends, and we'll see you tomorrow.
