Techonology Used for Harvest

"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields!
They are ripe for harvest."
John 4:35b (NIV)

I caught a few minutes of the History channel last night where they were showing how advances in technology are increasing harvests.  A cotton farm in Southern California used satellite imagery along with GPS (global positioning systems) to check on the conditions of their crops, pinpoint the heaviest harvest areas, and know where to apply certain product to crops such as Defoliants (helps the cotton lose its leaves so it can be harvested).   The use of technology saves time, money, and energy on the part of the farmer and takes the guess work out of harvesting.   In just those few moments, a Biblical truth illuminated my spirit, which I just had to share.

Cotton - White and Ripe for Harvest

Today’s advances in technology allow many of us who are ordinary folk to touch the WORLD!   We (through means such as blogs, email, or internet) have the potential to reach more people in our lifetime than any of our previous generations.   Online media outlets, such as You Tube, reach a vast audience of viewers allowing common people to do extraordinary things.  Computers have increased our ability to share the Word of God in faster, more efficient ways that don’t even require a “hard copy”.  Yet, we can see how technology has enhanced publishing outlets and other “paper” resources.

We have a responsibility to bloom where we have been planted and shine our lights.     The message we heard from the pulpit years ago still rings true, each of us have people in our lives that only WE will reach.  We may be the only “light” shining into their world.   The truth is you don’t know WHO you may reach.  You could be doing missions work right from the comfort of your own home.  With God’s math, we don’t know how He may multiply the simple works of our hands.

Technology is at our fingertips.  We don’t need to understand everything in order to be used… but please… use what you know to minister!    We can be His hands, His feet, His voice across the internet or other technological venues.  Ask yourself what YOU can do today to help further the Lord’s kingdom by simply using everyday resources that He has blessed you with.  It could be as simple as forwarding what you come in contact with in order to bless others!

Let’s pray today for those who minister via these new areas of technology; from computer specialists to everyday bloggers.    We have an open “window” through our computers and other means.  The harvest is plentiful.   Creatively, God can reap souls through us if we allow Him to use us.

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

Matthew 9:37-38 (NAS)
