Cities of Refuge

Cities of Refuge – Numbers 35:6

"The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities."

After an in depth study in the Old Testament about ten years ago (where I ran across this passage in Numbers), I attended a prayer meeting where a word came forth that there would be several cities in this nation that would be considered modern cities of refuge in the "last days".  Like many words from the Lord, we may not know EXACTLY what He is saying until it is fulfilled!   Sometime that can take awhile; even YEARS!  . As a side note however, I do feel like the fulfillment of prophetic words seems to be faster and nearly immediate the closer we get to the Lord's return.

When I originally heard the word, I thought the Spirit was saying that there would be cities that were safe (spiritually safe for Christians and for the ability to worship the Lord even during times of persecution).  I didn't know the real meaning, however, so I have pondered it in my heart until I heard about "sanctuary cities" in recent news.   I am now convinced that what I heard referred to what we are experiencing NOW in this country.  The fulfillment was a warning from the Lord about "sanctuary cities" or as I heard it "cities of refuge".

If you’ve been watching the news lately, you probably have seen the story about the murder involving an illegal immigrant who murdered a man and his two sons.  The suspect is from a "sanctuary city".      It got me to thinking… what in the world is a sanctuary city and is MY city considered one?!  After doing a quick search via the internet, I came across an interesting site (see below) that explains “sanctuary cities” and then offers a list of such cities.

Basically a "sanctuary city" is a policy adopted by a city that prohibits local police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities or notifying the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).    Sanctuary status also ends the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants, which opens the door for illegals to aliens to benefit from city and government services.

The federal law called The
Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (1996)  stands in stark contrast against "sanctuary cities". ..yet they exist.
What I found astonished me!

There are over 132 cities that I counted off hand from several states that seem to offer "sanctuary" status.     And I had only "heard" about San Francisco being one!

The bottom line is this:  God is not leaving us in the dark when it comes to the end time events!  Let those who have an ear to hear... let him hear what the Spirit is saying!
